The Department of Sociology at Begum Badrunnessa Govt. Girls' College, under the Faculty of Social Sciences, offers both undergraduate (honors) and postgraduate programs. It began with the Preliminary Masters Course in 1999, initiated by professor Sultana Begum. At that time, there were six teachers in this Department. The honours programs was introduced in the 2006-2007 session, under professor Merina Jahan's Leadership. At present, the department offers 90 seats for the Honors first year and 90 seats for the Masters course. Today, around 420 students are enrolled in the Honors and MSS programs, continuing the department's legacy of academic excellence. Sociology students consistently excel academically and actively engage in extracurricular activities, including debates, cultural programs, and sports. The department is dedicated to nurturing both academic excellence and personal development, ensuring students are well-prepared for future careers in the field of Sociology. The department provides a strong academic foundation, ensuring students excel in research and professional fields. The department is equipped with a seminar room & 2 class rooms for practical learning, enhancing students' skills and knowledge. Currently, there are 6 teachers and 2 staff members in the department.
